Summary

I am a Senior Lecturer in Law. My main areas of expertise are data protection law and policy, and law and emerging technologies.

Biography

I joined the University in November 2018, having previously been lecturer in law at the University of Hertfordshire from July 2015, and tutor in law at the University of Southampton from December 2012 until June 2015.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from the University of Reading (2011), a master's degree in Regulation and Technology (LLM) from King’s College, University of London (2012) and a PhD in Law from the University of Southampton (2020).

I am Deputy Editor for Computer Law & Security Review (CLSR), an international journal of technology and law and practice. The journal provides a major platform for the publication of high quality research, policy and legal analysis in the field of IT law and computer security.

I also provide data protection consultancy services to a number of firms based in London and the South of the UK.

Research interests

My research primarily focuses on the development of data protection law and policy, both in the UK and internationally, and I am widely published in this field. 

My PhD thesis examined data handling and disclosure practices of public sector organisations and how, given the limits of anonymisation techniques, these may represent a risk to individual privacy and data protection. 

I am also interested in IT law, media law, freedom of information, data governance, and the interplay between law and emerging technologies more generally.

Teaching responsibilities

I am module coordinator for the undergraduate Data Protection Law & Policy and Law and Artificial Intelligence (AI) modules, and for the postgraduate Information Technology (IT) Law module. I have also previously taught Criminal Law, Public Law, EU Law, and Medical Law.

I am a PhD supervisor to several PGR students researching topics related to data protection law and policy, and welcome prospective applications.
